We believe it is crucial for kids to be able to truly engage with the natural surroundings and elements that our nearby beaches have to offer. We provide small-group Beach School programmes for kids older than 2 years old.
Children can travel to the local beach on a Beach School Day by minibus or on foot for exploration and discovery.
We occasionally get together with our Little Fledglings Nursery friends in Ferring to spend the morning together.
Beach School is free, and in order to support these opportunities, we also bought a beach hut in Worthing that will protect us.
Although we anticipate that most kids will want to participate, if you'd rather they didn't, that is fine as well.

Outdoor Learning @The Allotment for the over 3s (entirely optional)
We operate weekly sessions for children aged 3+ years. We have our own allotment where we grow and cultivate fruit and vegetables, which we then use to make extra special snacks to share.
The focus during experiences is based heavily on the children’s interests and seasonal opportunities that arise while we are there as well as the obvious growing opportunities.
In addition to the growing experiences that evolve the children participate in additional educational exploration in the form of visits to other plots to observe slow worms and help pull up vegetables that are different to ours.
There are also visits to the wildlife area on the site that has a pond where frogs, newts and fish can be found.
Research has found that gardening in schools and nurseries has helped children become more resilient and confident in all areas of their life as well as teaching them vital life skills like communication and team work.
Nursery practice is now moving to a more holistic approach, recognising the benefits of a more engaging experience that helps children get involved and recognise their own learning in a meaningful way.

We go by bus to explore the wild garden at our sister nursery. Together with our Forest School Leader, the children make new friendships, and they grow in confidence and self-esteem.
We find that outdoor learning and Forest School gives children a deep connection with the natural environment, the elements, and the rhythm of the seasons. They also learn how to handle risks and how to use their own initiative to solve problems, co-operating with their friends. Often the children will bring ideas or projects back to the nursery to be carried on indoors.
We do not make an additional charge for any outdoor learning or Forest School sessions.
We record our experiences to enable the children to capture their memories and for parents and carers to share the extraordinary days that the children have had.

Twice weekly we go and visit the Nannies and Grandads at the local Dementia Care Home. We have been regular visitors for over 10 years!
The children and residents participate in shared activities and experiences on and off site at the home, at the nursery and trips on the bus to Haskins and to our beach huts together. We share special moments including Christmas parties, the nursery Graduation ceremony, sports day and more often painting, cooking, and singing. The children have built strong relationships with the Nannies and Grandads and during visits there is lots of cuddles and laughter shared. We also use Makaton signs to support good communication within the nursery which we have also introduced to the Nannies and Grandads as an additional form of communication which benefits those who struggle to communicate because of their dementia. |
